Overview

The National Kidney Center (NKC) is a non-profit NGO that operates the largest hemodialysis treatment facility in Nepal. It has a modern facility that can serve up to 250 patients per day for dialysis and 50 patients per day for consultation. NKC operates 80 dialysis machines in 3 stations at Kathmandu valley and 3 stations at Tanahu, Chitwan and Morang respectively. The center also has a state of the art water filtration system and a medical waste management system. Its revenues are derived exclusively from patient fees, but it treats all patients regardless of their ability to pay. The center was established with the help of Mrs. Beate Vogt from Germany and other German organizations. Its objectives are to provide high-quality preventive and curative services to kidney patients, create awareness about kidney disease, strengthen coordination between national and international organizations, upgrade the knowledge and skills of doctors and other health workers, and conduct research and publications regarding kidney disease.
