Overview
Kanti Children's Hospital (KCH) in Nepal was initially a general hospital with a 50-bed capacity, later converted to a children's hospital with a capacity of 150 beds. The Government of Japan became involved in KCH's development in 1973 through the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) program, and JOCV activities contributed to the donation of basic medical equipment, which helped establish the hospital's first Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In 1986, under the Japanese Grant Aid Program, KCH received various renovations and upgrades, including the installation of an oxygen plant. The hospital faced difficulties coping with the increasing demand for high-quality services due to the lack of effort and attention. The Government of Nepal requested grant assistance from Japan in 1993 for the expansion of KCH. The first and second phases of the project were completed in 1994 and 1996, respectively, and the hospital was handed over to Kanti Children's Hospital.
